Stewardship is defined as taking care of something. Whether that something be intangible or tangible, once it has been entrusted to us to care for, we need to ensure that they are not lost, destroyed or maligned in any way because the one who has entrusted these favors or things to us will one day ask us how we have gone about being good stewards to what have been entrusted to our care.
Parenting is a form of stewardship. The children borne of us are not ours --- not our possession. They are entrusted to us by the Supreme Father to raise in such a way that when they grow up, they will glorify their Creator. Discipline is a necessary part of stewardship where parenting is concerned because the Bible states to "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6). Good parenting is rewarding because parents see their children succeeding in life and they see the seeds of faith implanted from childhood grow and blossom in adulthood enabling these children to live their lives in accordance to their faithfulness.
Taking care of the environment is another form of stewardship. Basically, everyone knows that humans were created by God above all other animals in order for him to be stewards of all other creation. But has man really cared for his environment the way he ought to? We all know the answer to this question. We haven't really done our job well and because of this, we are reaping the consequences of our selfish actions. Because we have forgotten that the environment that should sustain all our needs needs our care and good stewardship, we find ourselves subjected to its wrath and fury.
How about time, money and our talents, have we been good stewards of these as well? Have we not wasted time sliding our fingers over screens even into the wee hours of the morning jeopardizing our health in the process? Have we been conscientious receivers of financial blessings and allowed these blessings to flow towards others who haven't been blessed as much? Have we been proud of the inherent abilities that God has given us even before our human eyes opened up to see the light of day?
Everywhere we run our gaze, there are people, things, situations and circumstances that we need to act upon. These may appear trivial sometimes, but in truth, these are some of our assignments. Stewardship doesn't stop for as long as we live because it is what gives our existence focus. Without it, we are simply doing something for the sake of having them completed --- without thought of whether we have done them well and good or we had them completed in mediocrity.
